The award is sponsored by Fred Allegrezza, Co-founder of Telikin Computers and his wife Nancy. Fred's relationship with Nancy, who is an RN and has over 30 years' experience in the field of nursing, led him to develop a special appreciation for the profession as he witnessed the many rewards and challenges these professionals faced in their daily lives.

"Often nurses do not get the recognition they deserve and yet they are an integral part of the health care system," Fred Allegrezza said. "They make a great difference in the lives of patients and their families every day."

In an effort to acknowledge and celebrate the dedication and contributions of nurses, Fred and Nancy established the Nursing Excellence Awards in 2001. The awards are managed by Gwynedd Mercy University's Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions. Award recipien
